- AI proofreading for spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Edit one chapter or process chapters in sequence
- Keep your original and review the result
Start with one chapter
Upload your document and check the chapter list. Choose Proofread, then Edit Chapter to try the selected chapter. Some documents import as one long chapter, so check the split before starting.
Proofread the whole book
Use the whole-book editing action when you are ready. Read the confirmation and estimate, keep the window open, and watch the chapter progress. Review the edited text before using the Download menu.
What the first test showed
In a short synthetic test, the existing Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite proofreading model corrected two planted grammar errors while preserving dialect, amounts, names and an ambiguous sentence. That is a useful smoke test, not proof that every book will be error-free.
Check what changed
AI can miss mistakes or make unnecessary corrections. Pay particular attention to dialogue, names, dates and numbers. For examples of the different editing levels, read the same paragraph edited three ways.
Frequently asked
What makes a book-editing workflow useful?
A chapter list and separate chapter or whole-book actions help you manage a longer manuscript. Check the quality of a sample edit and the available review and export options before choosing a tool.
How is manuscript text processed?
AI requests send the text needed for the selected task to a model provider, sometimes through Chapterra’s backend. The own-API-key mode has a separate provider configuration. Do not assume processing happens only in your browser. Review the applicable privacy terms before uploading sensitive material.
